Christmas List Express was started by a few BYU (Brigham Young University) alumni and students. Michael Choi, from whom the idea originated, formed a team with Spencer Walker and Geromy Morgan, who are both BYU students. After constructing the website in one week, they launched the site on October 24th of 2006.
Christmas List Express was to be a practical experiment and education for Michael and Spencer, who were taking an Internet Marketing Class at BYU. This class was taught by Paul Allen (founder of MyFamily.com and Ancestry.com). Instead of just learning about cool internet marketing strategies from the class, they wanted to go out and apply the internet marketing tactics they learned from Paul. Michael is also a member of Provo Labs Academy, which is an organization headed by Paul Allen, to help young entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Michael is also the founder of BoomYEAH, a Visual Online Yellow Page System with Reviews and Recommendations.
As BYU students, they also wanted to focus on giving part of the money to local homeless people and to provide gifts to children who may not have the money to buy what's on their Christmas Lists. It is their goal to raise $10,000 for this year's Christmas.
